PULASKI COUNTY, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – One person is recovering in the hospital after an explosion rocked a home on Lake Ridge Road Sunday evening. According to the Parkers Mill Fire Department, crews were called to the scene after a neighbor reported hearing a large explosion. When firefighters arrived, they found the garage door of the home blown off. Further investigation revealed a victim at the scene suffering from severe burns. Officials said the explosion was caused when the victim attempted to light a cigarette, unaware that fumes from an open gas can had filled the air. The individual was flown to the Louisville Burn Center for treatment. The extent of their injuries remains unknown. Despite the explosion, the structure of the home remained intact and has been returned to the homeowner.
