Former Letcher County sheriff pleas not guilty to murder charge

UPDATE: Stines pleaded not guilty to the charge of Murder of a Public Official in Letcher County court, during his arraignment.

LETCHER COUNTY, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – Former Letcher County Sheriff Shawn “Mickey” Stines is set to appear in court Monday for an arraignment following his indictment on charges related to the murder of District Judge Kevin Mullins.
As previously reported, a Letcher County Grand Jury indicted Stines last Thursday on a charge of Murder of a Public Official. The indictment stems from an incident on September 19, 2024, when Stines allegedly shot and killed Judge Mullins in his chambers. The tragic event was reportedly captured on surveillance video.
According to court records, Stines’ arraignment is scheduled for 12 p.m. Monday.
