PAULDING COUNTY, Ohio (WANE) -- One student is in non-life threatening condition after being hit by an SUV that failed to yield to a stopped bus picking up students Monday morning. Monday morning at 7:33 a.m. the Van Wert Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol responded to a two-vehicle crash involving a pedestrian and a school bus. When officers arrived a preliminary investigation showed that on County Road 109 near Township Road 184, a Paulding Exempted Village Schools bus was stopped in the southbound lane with red lights flashing picking up students. An SUV traveling northbound driven by 26-year-old Jennifer R. Burgei of Cloverdale, failed to yield to the stopped bus, hitting a student crossing the roadway. Burgei then hit the school bus, injuring two other students, before driving off the left side of the road. Burgei and the student crossing the roadway were both taken to the hospital in non-life-threatening condition. It is unclear at this time whether the driver of the vehicle faces any criminal charges. The crash continues to be under investigation.
