FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE)— Fort Wayne Community Schools Culinary Arts students cooked and handed out free meals to community members on Monday. They distributed 350 meals in record time— 27 minutes. The 8th annual Give Back Thanksgiving was scheduled from 4-6 p.m. Guests were able to pick up two dinners at the FWCS Career Academy Cafeteria located at 1200 S. Barr St in downtown Fort Wayne. It wrapped up a little early due to the high demand. There was a line forming an hour before the doors opened. The student-prepared menu included: Roasted Turkey Breast or Chicken Mashed Potatoes and Gravy Green Beans Apple Crisp All the food was prepared by Career Academy students. It took 8-10 hours beforehand. "It allows our students give back the community, those that are less fortunate than us, but also gives our students more real life world experience that we cannot duplicate help in in the classroom," Preston Fallat, the Chief Instructor of the FWCS Culinary Arts program.
