ORIGINAL STORY (POSTED 11/14/24):
CABARRUS CO., NC – Cabarrus County detectives hope a new clue will help them identify a woman found dead on the side of the road. Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Office said a fisherman stumbled across the body of a woman who has not yet been identified. The 911 caller found the woman’s body on the edge of Rocky River Bridge along U.S. Highway 601 on November 4th. WCCB obtained the 911 call from Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Office.
“Hey, uh, I’m calling because I just found a dead body,” the caller said to a 911 dispatcher. “Looks like a female. She has a trash bag over her head.”
Lieutenant Chris Smith said the body was decomposing when deputies found it. Investigators still do not know who the woman is. Detectives have released photos of three clues in this case. The newest photo is of the woman’s toenail. It shows a nail painted white, and decorated with rhinestones and a gold palmetto tree charm. The woman was also wearing a gold chain necklace lined with 15 rainbow colored stones. Investigators said the woman was wearing sweat pants with a distinct race car picture positioned under a green, white, and red line. A checkered pattern is underneath the race car on the pants.
Lt. Smith said the clues have generated tips, but so far none of those tips have proved credible. The Sheriff’s Office wants to show these pictures to as many people as possible in hopes of identifying the woman’s body. A medical examiner is still investigating how the woman died. Lt. Smith said hopes that more information on the woman’s identity will come to light once the autopsy is completed.
