(KRON) -- A Livermore man with 22 prior arrests for drug dealing was arrested again earlier this month after officers discovered more than 40 grams of fentanyl in packaging during a search of his vehicle, the Livermore Police Department announced Friday. On Nov. 5, officers in a parking lot on Airway Boulevard located a Toyota Camry owned by 61-year-old Livermore resident Richard Berg. According to police, Berg had been previously arrested 22 times for possession of drugs with the intent to sell. Officers spotted a methamphetamine smoking pipe in plain view inside the Toyota after approaching Berg, Livermore PD said. While speaking with Berg, police said he admitted to recently purchasing fentanyl and told officers that there was fentanyl on his person and inside the vehicle. Over 100 gathered for Vallejo sideshow early Sunday morning: police A search of the Toyota uncovered 43 grams of fentanyl in packaging, 1.65 grams of methamphetamine in packaging, 12 small clear baggies, a case of razors and two digital scales, according to authorities. Police also found $185 in cash. Livermore PD said the 43 grams of fentanyl seized equates to 21,885 lethal doses. “Based on the large quantity of fentanyl, which far exceeds personal use, officers determined that Berg intended to sell or transport the drugs for sale,” police said. Berg was arrested for transporting/selling a narcotic, possession and purchase for sale of a narcotic, transporting a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance for sale and possession of unlawful paraphernalia.
