WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) - Bradley Fair and Friends University are lit up for Christmas. For the 26th year, Friend University lit the historic Davis clock tower on Sunday. The president says it has become an inspiring celebration for the community. About 400 people attend the event each year. "So, this is a time where we can celebrate hope and light with the lighting of the tower, and that's what we want to demonstrate to our community as a Christian university this wonderful season of Christmas and hope for our community," Amy Carey, Friends University president, said. The Singing Quakers performed Christmas carols during the lighting, and cookies and hot chocolate were served. Santa Claus even made an appearance. When you can watch 2024 holiday specials on NBC At Bradley Fair, a 38-foot-tall Christmas tree containing 7,000 lights was lit. The Bradley Fair Express was also open for rides. An organizer says it is an event that families look forward to yearly. "Ever since I've started here and people learned my title, and I've worked with others on putting this big event together, they've said, 'Oh, my gosh, I got to come when I was a child,' and now they're bringing their children or their nieces and nephews. It's great to see the family traditions go on from grandparents all the way to grandchildren." This was the 21st year of the event, and portions of the proceeds from the train ride went to Ronald McDonald House Charities.
