Nov 25, 2024
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — The R.I. Community Food Bank released its 2024 Status Report on Hunger in Rhode Island on Monday.
The report shows nearly two of every five households in Rhode Island struggle to put enough food on the table — a higher rate than at any time during the pandemic.
According to the report, "38% of Rhode Island households are food insecure, with higher rates among communities of color."
When families can't afford food, they miss meals. In Rhode Island, the report said 42.2 million meals are missed annually.
Leaders said the need is greater than ever and they're helping feed a record 84,400 people every month. It's an increase of 9% from last year when 77,600 were served monthly.
The official report will be presented at 10 a.m. Monday.
