Employee fires shot at suspect breaking into Hickory Hill Wendy's

MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- Police say a man armed with a hammer broke into a Wendy's before dawn Monday, but ran away after an employee hiding in an office fired a gun through the door.
According to reports, MPD responded to 6260 Winchester Road just after 2 a.m. An employee told officers that she was in her office in the back of the business when she heard glass breaking from the front of the store.

The woman said she immediately closed and locked the office door, and moments later, she heard the suspect walking near it.
She then grabbed her Glock and fired one shot through the office door, police say.

MPD said when they reviewed surveillance footage, a man wearing a grey hoodie, grey sweatpants, gray sneakers, black face mask, and armed with a hammer could be seen breaking the drive-through window and climbing through.

The suspect was then seen walking toward the back of the store near the office and then climbing on the countertop, pulling out wires to disable the alarm system.
That's when the employee fired her gun.
Police say the suspect heard the shot, got off the counter, and jumped back through the drive-through window, fleeing the scene.
MPD says no shooting victims were located at area hospitals after the incident. No charges were listed against the employee.
