Turning much colder with rain/snow ahead of Thanksgiving
Nov 25, 2024
We're tracking a major drop in temperatures this week along with more rain and snow chances. Some of this could impact your Thanksgiving travel plans.
We're off to a very mild Monday morning with temperatures in the low to mid 50s. On average, our low temperatures are in the low 30s this time of year with high temperatures only in the upper 40s. So, we're doing pretty well in the temperature department to start the week.
However, it won't last long. Temperatures will climb to the mid and upper 50s Monday afternoon. Winds will be breezy and rain chances will be on the rise.
Patchy drizzle is around the area this morning. We'll see spotty to widely scattered this afternoon and then more rainfall coverage this evening will be more concentrated on the eastern half of the state.
A cold front passing this evening will send temperatures to much colder levels Tuesday morning. Air temperatures will fall to the low 30s and wind chill values will be in the teens and low 20s.
Skies will gradually clear for more sunshine Tuesday but temperatures will only rise back to the low and mid 40s.
Another storm system is set to slide through the region just ahead of the holiday. A low pressure system will bring rain, a wintry mix and snow showers to the area. However, the precipitation will not be distributed evening. The track of the "low" will bring rain to the region by Wednesday afternoon. This currently looks to shift to a wintry mix and snow Wednesday evening for areas along and north of the I-70 corridor.
This will continue into early Thursday morning. Some slushy accumulations will be possible for local travelers early on Thanksgiving. However, there is still some uncertainty on the track of this system. A slight shift could greatly vary the type of precipitation we see fall. Scroll through the Futurecast images below for an early look at how we could see this system move through but be sure to check back for updates!
What is more clear is that we will continue to trend colder into the end of the week. Wind chills Saturday and Sunday morning could be in the single digits with high temperatures both days only in the 20s. Light snow showers are possible Saturday. It will be a cold close to November!
