Fort Carson, Salvation Army partner to prepare 2,200 Thanksgiving meals
Nov 25, 2024
(EL PASO COUNTY, Colo.) — Following a yearly tradition, Fort Carson teamed up with the Salvation Army to prepare Thanksgiving meals.
On Friday, Nov. 22, the Salvation Army of El Paso County delivered 220 turkeys, 300 pounds of green beans, 250 pounds of potatoes, 240 pounds of stuffing, three cases of chicken broth, 18 bottles of chicken seasoning, two cases of salt and pepper, and two cases of garlic powder. These ingredients will make 2,200 meals.
For almost two decades, the Fort Carson Culinary Academy has prepared Thanksgiving meals for the Salvation Army.
“We simply could not prepare two thousand plus Thanksgiving meals without the collaboration with the Fort Carson Culinary Academy each year,” said Major Nancy Ball, the Salvation Army of El Paso County Coordinator. “This partnership makes a significant impact on our community. It allows us to serve not only those who cannot afford a meal but also those who are shut-ins and those who have nowhere else to go and want to be around others,” added Major Ball. “The holidays can be very lonely for some individuals and that’s why we serve on Thanksgiving and Christmas day.”
Preparations for Thanksgiving meals began Friday. In addition, 300 pies will be delivered to the Salvation Army on Wednesday, Nov. 27.
