BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) -- Officials in New Orleans talked about this year's Bayou Classic on Monday morning.
Football fans will be in the city this week for the 51st Bayou Classic. Events in New Orleans start Thursday, Nov. 28 leading up to the Saturday HBCU football matchup between the Grambling State University Tigers and Southern University Jaguars.
Mayor LaToya Cantrell, city representatives and Southern University and Grambling State officials gave an update at the Caesars Superdome.
"I am so grateful for the city of New Orleans once again, not only hosting the 51st Bayou Classic but continuing to show up as a world-class city so that all of us can be proud and, of course, the state of Louisiana as well. We are stronger together," said Cantrell.
Visitors are encouraged to shop and eat at local businesses and restaurants. The Bayou Classic is estimated to make an economic impact of over $50 million.
The Superdome recently underwent a $560 million renovation. Evan Holmes, general manager of Caesars Superdome, said the facility is ready to go for events and the game.
"Right now, we're in the middle of a big communication upgrade, so hopefully your uploads to your socials will go up really quickly," he said.
Special events this week include the Bayou Classic Thanksgiving Day Parade, Battle of the Bands and Greek Show and a fan festival.
