Municipalities in RI, Mass. to distribute turkeys to those facing food insecurity

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — As Thanksgiving is just days away, many municipalities throughout Rhode Island and Massachusetts will be giving out turkeys to those in need.
In New Bedford, Mayor Jon Mitchell will hand out turkeys with The Friendly Sons of St. Patrick at St. Lawrence Church.
The giveaway in New Bedford will happen at at 10 a.m. today.
In Central Falls, 500 families with receive gift cards and turkeys starting at 5 p.m. on Broad Street as part of the city’s annual Thanksgiving drive.
Mayor Maya Rivera will join volunteers from Tufts Health Plan and police and fire personnel for the drive.
In Pawtucket, First Lady Laureen Grebien will distribute over 850 turkey baskets to residents who face food insecurity.
On Friday, over 100 volunteers joined her to pack those baskets with items donated from “Wish Come True.”
