"I grew up skating [at Aala Park] and helped keep me out of trouble. To do this third annual ASB Super Scape Posse Trust Republic Plan event is near and dear to my heart, so I'm really stoked to give back to where I'm from and let's keep it going," explained Reyes.
Eighty-eight students received a new skateboard, bag, helmet, t-shirt and shoes from the Trust for Public Land and APB Skateshop.
"Skateboarding can be very expensive, but these kids will get the equipment for free today and take with them. Not everybody can afford a skateboard or just a skateboard deck and this is going to go they're just going to help to get them started," Reyes added.
A "best trick" contest was also held with nearly $500 in prizes.
According to the event organizer and co-founder of Super Skate Possee Adaku Ibekwe, the event is held to help create connections between the keiki and the neighborhood.
"The beauty of the community of skateboarding. It doesn't matter where in the world you go as a skateboarder, you got a home. You got someone who will welcome you in and show you the town," said Ibekwe.
