CLAYTON, N.C. (WNCN) — A small memorial was visible Sunday afternoon at the Johnston County intersection where a Saturday night crash left two women dead and six little girls injured — one critically. All day loved ones left candles, balloons, and flowers to honor two women killed in the tragic wreck — and a little girl still fighting for her life. The single-car wreck was reported just after 7 p.m. along Jack Road at Government Road, just southwest of Clayton, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol. The oldest child — an 8-year-old girl — was critically injured while five other young girls were seriously hurt and taken to area hospitals, officials said. A makeshift memorial at the crash site Sunday in memory of the two women and to support the injured had various mementos — including a small pink shoe — but also included bits of the wrecked Jeep. CBS 17 photo Neighbors near the wreck site heard the crash after the Jeep sailed through a stop sign and hit a large tree. “I heard a boom like a dresser, drawer, or something had hit the ground, you know outside so I peeked outside," said Jamie Avery, who was unable to see the crashed SUV from his house. About 20 minutes later, Avery said he heard sirens and the area was packed with emergency vehicles. “Some lady was at the accident. She said she pulled a couple of kids out. She’d heard the girls hollering — a couple of them," Avery added. The women in the SUV were not wearing a seat belt and the children were not properly restrained, officials said. In addition to the 8-year-old in critical condition, one girl is 7 years old, and the other four are two sets of twins, all under the age of three, according to troopers.
