Discussion:
We’re starting the work week with above average temperatures and sunny skies courtesy of high pressure off the coast. Highs will top out near 70 this afternoon — nearly 10 degrees above average. A cold front will approach the region overnight bringing shower to the region through daybreak Tuesday. Rainfall totals will be light up to .1-25″. Behind the front winds will shift slightly, but temps will remain warm during the day with highs topping out in the upper 60s. Cooler temps will settle in Tuesday night with lows falling into the upper 30s, while daytime highs Wednesday will top out in the low 60s.
By Thanksgiving Day, a stronger system from the Southern Plains moves through bringing widespread rain to the region. This could make for some soggy Thanksgiving day travel, but no severe weather is expected.
This weekend will be much colder. There is a chance of snow for the mountains Friday morning, but accumulations right now are looking to be light as Friday morning temps range from the low 30s in the mountains to the upper 30s across the Piedmont. This weekend highs will struggle to break out of the 40s with overnight lows falling into the 20s and 30s — the first widespread freeze of the season.
