SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) -- A family was displaced ahead of Thanksgiving after a fire broke out in their El Cajon home Sunday afternoon. Calls came in around 4:12 p.m. Sunday for a fire in a home in the 1500 block of Broadway in El Cajon. Crews contain vegetation fire in Otay Mountain Wilderness area Firefighters were able to knock down the fire in just seven minutes. The Heartland Fire & Rescue Battalion Chief Brent Baum told FOX 5/KUSI the fire began in the garage and spread to the kitchen where it was able to be contained. Cal Fire unveiled a newly ‘fire-resistant’ home in San Diego. Will more be retrofitted? The Red Cross was called in to assist the family of four and their pet. No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
