URI Men’s Basketball Earns Statement Win over College of Charleston

Rhode Island played its most complete game of the season, dominating from start to finish to defeat College of Charleston 91-53 Sunday afternoon.
The Rams (5-0) scored the first seven points of the game and never looked back. URI build a 29-point lead by halftime as four players scored at least seven points in the opening 20 minutes. On the other end of the floor, Rhody limited the Cougars (4-2) to 8-of-33 from the floor and 0-for-12 from the perimeter. It all added up to a 45-16 lead at the half.
Javonte Brown had 10 points, while Jamarques Lawrence had eight and Sebastian Thomas and Tyonne Farrell had seven apiece. Brown also had four blocks on Charleston big man Ante Brzovic. Brzovic entered the game averaging 26.4 points per game, but had just four in the half.
Rhode Island’s lead swelled to as many as 38 points as it played a complete 40-minute game. The Rams are 5-0 for the first time in 18 years, dating back to the 2007-08 season.

The Rams have scored at least 86 points in every game, and 90 or more four times.
Point guard Sebastian Thomas recorded his first double-double of the season, finishing with 15 points, 10 assists, six rebounds and three steals.
The 10 assists were a season high and his third straight game with at least nine.
Center Javonte Brown had 17 points, seven rebounds and four blocked shots.
He was 8-for-9 from the field while limiting Charleston big man Ante Brzovic to 2-of-10 from the floor.
Guard Jamarques Lawrence was the third Ram in double digits, scoring 16 points to go with four assists.
Rhode Island had 20 assists as a team.
Forward David Fuchs had seven points and a team-high 11 rebounds off the bench.
Forwards Tyonne Farrell and David Green each had nine points and four rebounds.
College of Charleston forward Ante Brzovic was held to four points. He came in averaging 26.4 per game.
Rhode Island had a 45-33 edge on the boards.
The Rams shot 10-for-23 from the perimeter while limiting the Cougars to 2-for-21.
