NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Warm and humid conditions will persist across the northern Gulf Coast through the first half of the week, but a significant cool down is on the way by the weekend. Temperatures will run about 10 degrees above average on Monday, with afternoon highs climbing into the upper 70s and low 80s. Overnight lows will stay mild, mostly in the 60s. Some patchy fog may develop overnight in low-lying areas like the Pearl River Basin. A weak front will pass through late Monday into early Tuesday, bringing a slight chance of showers, especially in northern areas. However, rainfall will be limited, and thunderstorms are not expected. After the front moves through, temperatures will briefly drop closer to average by Tuesday and Wednesday. By Thursday, another system will bring scattered showers and possibly a few weak thunderstorms, primarily in northern areas. Behind it, much cooler air will arrive. Highs on Friday are expected to stay in the upper 50s, with the coldest night of the season so far coming Friday night. Lows could dip into the low 30s north of Lake Pontchartrain and upper 30s to low 40s farther south. Some areas may even experience a light freeze. The weekend will remain chilly, with highs in the upper 50s to low 60s and nighttime temperatures in the 40s.
