RICHMOND, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW)- For the 23rd time in school history, Eastern Kentucky football is playing in the FCS postseason after earning an at-large bid.
The Colonels will face 11 Villanova away on November 30 at 2 p.m. on ESPN+.
EKU was able to get into the playoffs by beating Tarleton State and Central Arkansas, teams which were ranked when they played the Colonels.
A five game winning streak to end the season 8-4 also helped Head Coach Walt Wells’ team.
Wells is the first head coach in Richmond since Dean Hood to take EKU to multiple playoff appearances.
This is the Colonels’ first time in the tournament since 2022 and the selection gives them the second most appearances in the playoffs in FCS history.
The Wildcats of Villanova enter the postseason after going 9-3 in the regular season and beating rivals Delaware to secure their status as first round hosts.
Saturday’s meeting will be the first between the Wildcats and Colonels.
