An update with post-game quotes on the 4 Detroit Lions injuries vs. the Indianapolis Colts. The Detroit Lions suffered a few injuries against the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday, including to three key players on the offensive side of the ball. Let’s break down the latest news on each.
What happened to Kalif Raymond?
First was wide receiver Kalif Raymond, who injured his foot on a punt return. He was seen limping on the sidelines and would need the cart to leave the field. He would eventually be ruled out in the third quarter. Raymond is the team's starting punt returner as well and was replaced by fellow wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown.
After the game, Lions coach Dan Campbell referred to his injury as the only one on the day that could be considered “a little more serious.”
David Montgomery injury update
Star running back David Montgomery would leave the game in the third quarter with a shoulder injury and didn’t return at the time of this publishing. Montgomery was seen leaving the field after catching a pass for 14 yards, breaking multiple tackles. Montgomery was ruled questionable to return with a shoulder injury. He eventually returned to the sidelines with a helmet but did not re-enter the game.
Asked David Montgomery if he could've gone back in the game if needed. He said yes, but Dan Campbell pulled him aside and told him, "There's bigger fish to fry." Said it was a smart decision and he'll be ready to go Thursday.— Colton Pouncy (@colton_pouncy) November 24, 2024
Taylor Decker returns from injury
The Lions also saw left tackle Taylor Decker leave the game with what was referred to as a knee and ankle injury. Dan Skipper filled his spot for a drive, but Decker returned. Detroit also pulled Decker late in the game.
The Lions left tackle seemed to downplay the injury after the game, and said he plans on playing on a short week on Thanksgiving.
“I’ll be alright. I’ll be good to go,” Decker said. “Yeah, I should be good. I don’t know if I’m supposed to say that, but I’m good.”
Carlton Davis suffers late injury
Lions starting cornerback Carlton Davis went down in the second half with what was described as a knee injury. He did not return to the game, but he was on the exercise bike during the fourth quarter. He, too, seemed a bit optimistic about the injury after the game.
Lions CB Carlton Davis III said he doesn't have any longterm concerns about his knee: "I'm walking and I'm standing on it, so it should be good news going forward."Says he could be feeling better physically, but "(I'll) get back, get some treatment and I'll be good."— Richard Silva (@rich_silva18) November 24, 2024
Will any of these players play on Thanksgiving?
Decker outright said he plans on playing. Montgomery seemed optimistic, too—and you know he doesn’t want to miss playing against his former team, the Chicago Bears.
It’s a little less clear for Davis and Raymond. Seeing as Raymond was declared out during the game, he’s got the longest journey to return to the field by Thursday. Davis sounded optimistic he avoided a long-term injury, but the quick turnaround may prevent him from playing against the Bears. Hopefully, Terrion Arnold can return from the groin injury that held him out of this contest.
Campbell was a little more cautious than the players themselves.
“I feel okay about three of those guys (Decker, Montgomery, Davis),” Campbell said. “Leaf (Raymond) could be a little bit more serious. But even with that, it doesn’t mean any of those guys will be ready for Thursday. I just don’t know.”
