Mass. (WWLP) - Thanksgiving is right around the corner and millions of Americans are preparing to hit the road to celebrate the holiday with their loved ones. With more drivers on the road, that increases the risk of accidents but that can all be avoided if drivers plan ahead and ease up on the gas pedal. "I take the normal following distance and double it and I also pay attention to the way the person in front of me is driving because if they are going all over the road, they are either not paying attention on the phone or they are wasted," said Joe Ferrari from Agawam. AAA projects almost 80 million travelers will go 50 miles or more from home for Thanksgiving. The Association reports that this is an increase of 1.7 million people compared to last year and 2 million more than in 2019. Nearly 72 million people are expected to travel by car over Thanksgiving which is an additional 1.3 million travelers on the road compared to last year. AAA says the best travel time is before 10 a.m. on Monday through Wednesday. If you are returning home on Thanksgiving weekend the best time to get on the road is before 1 p.m.
