NORMAN, Okla. (KFOR)—The University of Oklahoma was fined $200,000 after fans rushed the field during Saturday's game against Alabama. After Saturday’s victory over Alabama, Sooner Nation ran onto Owen Field. More than 10,000 Oklahoma fans entered the field to celebrate a win. They were also fined the other $100,000 due to fans coming onto the field prior to the game ending, which “caused a delay in the contest.” SEC officials said for conference contests, fines for violation of the access to competition area policy are paid to the opposing team. “This policy is in place to ensure the safety of everyone involved,” the SEC stated. Penalties for violations range from $100,000 for a first offense to $250,000 for a second and $500,000 for subsequent offenses. Auburn was also penalized by the SEC, with a $100,000 fine for violation of the policy following their game against Texas A&M. It was their first offense under the current policy, which was revised in 2023.
