Norfolk, Va. (WAVY) — Ahead of Thanksgiving, travel experts are expecting a flurry of people hitting the skies. AAA projected 7.5 million air travelers this holiday season, surpassing 2019’s record of 7.3 million passengers. At Norfolk International Airport on Sunday, flights were cruising smoothly with no delays. "We were only concerned because of the weather," said Clare Callaghan, a Roanoke resident. "I mean, they said it was going to be really windy in Boston today and we thought the flight might be delayed, but it's on time and they should be here shortly." Some travelers, like Jennifer Cruz, didn't expect to have it as easy. She and her family were flying to Colorado. "I'm a little nervous, especially because of the snow and all of that. And it's super cold, so we'll see how it goes," she said. Despite the weather conditions, Cruz's daughter, Julianna, was feeling positive. She was excited for the snow and her first flight. Although it's business as usual at ORF on Sunday, other travelers expressed uneasiness towards the holiday season. "I'm really glad that I'm getting back home to New York before the holidays hit," said Elizabeth Pearlstein. "Because it's going to be rough one."
