New Town man arrested after assaulting Highway Patrol officer

BISMARCK, N.D. (KXNET) — A man has been arrested after fighting with multiple law enforcement officials on the afternoon of Saturday, November 24.
According to a press release from the North Dakota Highway Patrol, at approximately 1:30 p.m., an NDHP trooper responded to a report of a car driving recklessly on Interstate 94, and caught up to it four miles east of Medina. The driver and suspect in the incident — a 37-year-old man from New Town — was determined to be under the influence of alcohol.

During the arrest, the suspect attacked the Trooper, and they fought for several minutes before help arrived in the form of a Foster County Sheriff's Deputy. The suspect proceeded to assault the Deputy as well before being stopped by other State Troopers and Stutsman County Deputies who arrived several minutes later.
The suspect was then taken into custody, and is currently being held at the Stutsman County Jail. He has been charged with the following offenses:
Driving while license suspended (Class B Misdemeanor)
Driving under the influence: actual physical control (Class B Misdemeanor)
Driving under the influence: refusal to submit to a chemical test (Class B Misdemeanor)
Simple assault on a peace officer, two counts (Class C Felony)
Contact by bodily fluids against law enforcement (Class C Felony)
Resisting arrest (Class C Felony)
The NDHP Trooper sustained minor injuries in the fight, and is stated to be recovering at home.
