BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- Hundreds of people spent the day fishing with firefighters on Saturday, while raising money at the same time. At the annual Bakersfield Firefighters Fishing Derby and Pancake Breakfast, the goal is to catch fish and raise money for a good cause. At the Park at River Walk, more than 1,600 pounds of rainbow trout were poured into the man-made lake. Chad Burton, a Captain with the Bakersfield Fire Department said the event is, in part, to help disadvantaged youth. "We're really trying to lighten their day up," said Burton. "We bring them out, try and make it a great day for them, and hopefully try to get them a fish to catch." This event raises money for the BFD Pipes & Drums and Honor Guard.
