Virginia Union’s football team makes history after defeating Wingate 3431 in playoff game

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- The Virginia Union University (VUU) Panthers made history on Saturday after defeating the Wingate University Bulldogs and earning their first-ever playoff win.
The VUU Panthers won 34-31 in overtime against the Wingate Bulldogs on Saturday, Nov. 23 in the first round of NCAA Division II Football Playoffs in Wingate, North Carolina.
Saturday's win is the first time the Panthers have won an NCAA Division II Playoff game in the football program's 125-year history.
VUU player RJ Rosales made a 9-yard touchdown pass to teammate Jeremi Frances leaving the score tied 28-28 in the fourth quarter. Rosales then ran a 1-yard touchdown in overtime to give the university its historic win.
Virginia Union will play the unseeded Lenoir-Rhyne University in the second round of the NCAA Division II Football Playoffs on Saturday, Nov. 30.
