Holiday Kids Makers Market returns with creations from young talent
Nov 24, 2024
LENEXA, Kan. -- This time of year, holiday shopping events are popping up all over town with fabulous Kansas City makers. But this one is unique...
More than 30 young artisans, all under the age of 18, set up shop at the Lenexa Market Sunday for the Holiday Kids Makers Market -- an annual shopping event that highlights the talents and creativity of local youth with handmade products you can buy for the holidays.

Each talented vendor has crafted products like handmade jewelry, ornaments, stationery and stuffed animals, and set up unique displays to sell their work to the public just in time for Christmas.
One of the creators, a young man who started painting during the COVID-19 pandemic, has developed into quite an accomplished artist over the years.
Nate Duwe began selling his paintings here as an 8th grader. Now, he is in his senior year and this is his last show.
As he has matured, his landscapes hold more meaning. From detailed mountains to beautifully painted skies to the incorporation of clouds with light breaking through, all of his creations come from a personal experience that he hopes he can pass on to others.
"Oftentimes we go through storms and troubles and dark places," Duwe said. "Even still when you believe in god you're still going to go through troubles. You're still going to go through pain. But you do so because otherwise you don't learn and get stronger and that's what god wants for you is to be stronger."

The age range of these young makers is quite large with some still in elementary school and others applying to college. With each sale and each creation, these entrepreneurs prove that you can do whatever you set your mind to regardless of your age.
If you are interested in supporting these talented creators, the Holiday Kids Makers Market will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday at the Lenexa Public Market at 8750 Penrose Lane.
However, if you can't attend, many of the young artisans sell their products online as a way to earn money year-round. For the names of all the vendors, as well as all their products, go to lenexapublicmarket.com.
