8-Man Regionals: Pembroke 50, Frewsburg (VI) 19 Pembroke continued its winning streak on the path to its third-straight state title with a win over Frewsburg in the 8-Man regionals, taking a 50-19 victory. The win was the 35th in a row for the Dragons. Last year Pembroke defeated Moravia (IV) 36-0 to win back-to-back NYSPHSAA 8-man regional championships. The regional championship game is New York’s 8-man state title game in all ways except for name. The Dragons opened up the scoring late in the first on a 28-yard carry from Caleb Felski for an 8-0 lead. Frewsburg responded immediately with a 60-yard touchdown reception by Chase Haglund to make the score 8-6. Felski started the second quarter scoring with a rushing touchdown for 17 yards. Frewsburg answered again, this time with a short touchdown run from Trent Lewis. The score was 16-12 with just over eight minutes left in the half. Following the touchdown, the Dragons put up 34 unanswered puts to shut down the Bears. Felski started the scoring run with a 34-yard rush. He then stopped the Frewsburg's offense with an interception on the following drive. With 22 seconds left in the half, a reverse went to Felski who threw a 10-yard pass to Vijay Dhanda to make it 30-12. Felski had a 67-yard rushing touchdown to start the scoring of the third quarter, followed by a 51-yard score on the ground to bring it 44-12. Caleb Kimmel closed out Pembroke's scoring with a carry to the end zone for 57 yards and a 50-12 lead. Frewsburg's Henry Eckert had a touchdown reception to bring the game to a final score of 50-19. The Dragons were led by Felski who totaled 428 yards with five touchdowns. He also added two interceptions and a fumble recovery in the win. Pembroke's defense was led by Madden Perry with 11 tackles. Hayden Williams added an interception. Pembroke (10-0) advances to play Section III's Frankfort-Schuyler on Friday, November 29th in the state semifinals. Class C Regionals: Salamanca (VI) 42, East Rochester/Gananda 20 East Rochester/Gananda's season came to a close after suffering a 42-20 loss against Salamanca in the Class C regionals. The Warriors entered the game undefeated and were the top-ranked team in the state. Salamanca started the game with 22 unanswered points with touchdowns from Xavier Peters, Cody Holleran and Quinten Brown. The Bombers got on the board with a 50-yard rushing touchdown from Cadearrel Sneed, Jr. in the second quarter to bring the score to 22-6. Salamanca added another as Peters scored again, but East Rochester/Gananda responded with a touchdown pass from Ben Newman to Justice Allen for five yards to close the gap to 28-14. Peters gave the Warriors another touchdown to open the second half as they took a 36-14 lead. The Bombers answered with a 12-yard touchdown pass from Newman to Noah Mathers to bring the score to 36-20. A 37-yard touchdown run from Peters closed out the scoring to put Salamanca out front for a final score of 42-20. Peters finished the game with 239 rushing yards and four touchdowns. Sneed had 19 total touches for 136 yards. Newman completed 22 of 34 attempts for 206 yards and two touchdowns. East Rochester/Gananda's season with a 9-2 record. They were seeking their second trip to the state semifinals in program history. Class B Regionals: Health Sciences (VI) 32, Eastridge 0 After turning its program around from an 0-8 season last year to winning a sectional title, Eastridge's campaign ended in the Class B regionals with a 32-0 loss to Health Sciences of Buffalo. Eastridge kept in the game early, down just 8-0 midway through the second quarter. But Health Sciences scored twice before halftime to lead 20-0 at the break and added two more scores in the third quarter. Health Sciences got two rushing touchdowns each from Kavon Pitts and Kevin Guy. Brandon Mickell added another score in the third quarter. Eastridge's season ends with a 6-5 record.
