FORECAST: Still breezy, but sunshine does return to the DMV
Nov 23, 2024
Here is a wrap-up of a few snow amounts with Friday's storm.@ScottSumnerWx
As yesterday's storm system moves away from the DMV, ending any leftover precipitation, overnight conditions will continue to be breezy, with gusts ranging from 20-40 mph. With the winds still whipping around, forecasted overnight lows will range from the mid-to-upper 30s everywhere except the mountains, where the thermometer will be stuck in the 20s.
On Sunday, a dome of high-pressure returns, bringing dry conditions and moderating temperatures to start Thanksgiving week. Afternoon temperatures on Sunday will push into the low to mid-50s in most places except the mountains, which will be in the 40s.
Monday will start mostly sunny, dry, and mild before a cold front arrives late Monday into early Tuesday, bringing light amounts of wet weather to the DMV. As for temperatures, expect the moderating trend to continue, with temperatures in the upper 50s to near 60 for most cities and towns.
On Tuesday morning, all light showers will end, except for the upslope areas in the Alleghenies, where a brief changeover to snow could occur before precipitation ends around midday. Once again, the wind will increase following the front as high temperatures stay mild, especially in the lower 60s for those in Northern Virginia.
The next storm system will approach early Thursday, and while precipitation is looking increasingly likely at some point, there remain some uncertainties with the storm's track and forecast temperatures. Any wintry weather looks to be most likely confined to areas along and west of I-81; however, some snow showers may also occur in the Cumberland Valley.
Thanksgiving Day will likely be chilly and rainy for much of the area, but improving conditions are possible, especially heading into Black Friday and next weekend. Meanwhile, accumulating upslope snow showers will again be seen in Western Maryland and the Allegany Front region.
