ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) – Saturday, the People's Choice Kitchen worked to ensure every family is able to feast this Thanksgiving. Owner and operator (and former Remarkable Woman recipient!) Evangela "Van" Stanley hosted a massive meal giveaway at her restaurant on Brooks Avenue in Rochester. It was a collaborative engagement, bringing together local and regional businesses, nonprofits, as well as church groups. "Close to 200 families will receive turkeys, pies, thanks to Soccer Sam - the owner of Salvatore's Pizzaria and West Herr car dealership, they donated over 50 turkeys and canned goods. There's so many people that came together - Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity, they came together to help make this possible. We just have a lot of people in this community who are in need right now and we just wanted to help take one bill off the table for them," she said. Abilene hosts benefit concert for homeless Stanley also included a shoutout to Wegmans, saying they - along with Monroe County Legislator LaShay Harris - asked for all of her birthday presents to be donated to her cause.
