Women’s hockey: St. Cloud State tops Gophers 31 for weekend split

St. Cloud State scored a pair of third-period goals to upset the No. 3 Gophers women’s hockey team 3-1 on Saturday at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center in St. Cloud.
The loss ended a seven-game win streak for Minnesota, which is now 11-4-1 overall and 7-4-1 in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association. St. Cloud State, ranked 10th in the nation, improved to 9-5-2 overall and 5-5-2 in the WCHA.
The Huskies’ Brieja Parent scored her third goal of the year 1 minute, 49 seconds into the third period, then teammate Avery Farrell added a goal at 3:09 to put St, Cloud State ahead 3-0.
Natalie Mlynkova scored the Gophers’ only goal shortly after the U fell into a 3-0 hole. Ava Lindsay and Peyton Hemp assisted on the goal.
Abbe Promersberge put the Huskies up 1-0 at 9:24 of the second period.
Minnesota beat St, Cloud State 5-2 on Friday at Ridder Arena in the opener of the two-game series.
