MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas in Downtown Memphis after the Downtown Tree Lighting.
Despite being less than a week away from Thanksgiving, Memphians are feeling the Christmas spirit as a big crowd is gathered on South Main and Peabody for the tree lighting.
WREG spoke with several people who are excited about hearing Christmas music, meeting Santa and making new memories with their families.
"It’s really special we love the beginning of the season and the holiday season," said Downtown Elementary School Music Specialist Elisabeth Lay. "Our students love any opportunity they have to be able to perform and sing.”

"It's very exciting," attendee Toni Staples said. "I mean with the kids - the smiles on their faces. Just seeing them enjoy the things I used to enjoy as a child. So, I think it's perfect."
The Christmas Tree was lit just a little bit before 5 p.m.
The free family event is now over but it featured holiday shopping, live music, festive activities and complimentary treats.
If you want to take a picture in front of the tree, it will be up all throughout the holiday season.
