BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — A historic run has come to an end for Indiana University football. The now-10-1 Hoosiers lost their first game of the season on Saturday against Ohio State. “The first drive went well,” said Dylan Wagler, an IU fan. “We scored, and then after that, ugh, it was a rough one. I can’t lie.” “It was good, and then I just started getting a little sad as the game went on,” said Jayden Wampler, another fan. “I was crying,” said Xavier Allen, another fan. “You put that much cash on the Hoosiers to win, and they don't come through.” “I was kinda let down,” said Matthew Gealy, an IU fan. “My father is a Buckeyes fan. I was chirping at him all morning, ‘Hoosiers got this!’ He was rooting against his own son’s school, and they just couldn't get it done.” IU has not defeated Ohio State since 1988, but despite the loss, Hoosier fans think their squad has already accomplished so much this season. “We are still legit,” said Dominic Russo, an IU fan. “10-1. We are still legit! Go Hoosiers.” “I never expected IU football to be good in general,” Wagler said. “Coach Cignetti. Never Daunted. I love him.” In the last three seasons combined, IU had nine wins. This season, they already have 10 — the most in program history. “I love the improvement,” Wampler said. “That’s literally just the biggest thing. The new coach. Everyone’s attitudes are much better, so it's (helping) us to win more. Everyone just has a better attitude.” “I love how determined they are,” said Sierra Spivey, an IU fan. “Especially with all the pressure, I think they have a lot of determination.” The 2024 season isn't over yet, and IU fans believe there is still so much more to come from their Hoosiers in the coming weeks. “Heading into the playoffs, I feel like we’ve got to make it,” Allen said. “I mean 10-1. We have a shot. Cinderella story.” “We can still make the playoffs,” Wagler said. “I mean, we play Purdue next week, so we will probably beat Purdue. They've won one game, I think. We got that, so we might make the playoffs still. We got a shot.”
