BISMARCK, ND (KXNET) — Senator John Hoeven outlined his top priorities he wants to work on in the last few weeks of the 118th Congress -- and he says it's all about putting farmers and ranchers first. Senator Hoeven made these announcements at the annual North Dakota Farm Bureau meeting in the Bismarck Hotel earlier today. His biggest priorities include securing disaster assistance for farmers and ranchers impacted by North Dakota's wildfires, advancing tax policies that benefit agri-business, protecting private property rights, and most importantly, passing a strong farm bill. "Every single American benefits every single day from a good farm bill," says Senator Hoeven, "because we have this network of farmers and ranchers that produce the highest quality and lowest cost food supply in the world that benefits every American every day." Senator Hoeven says he's been working to secure an extension of the farm bill. This will help with addressing improvements to crop insurance, access to credit, livestock disaster programs, and improving the safety net, so ranchers and farmers -- which he says are predominantly family-owned -- don't go out of business.
