ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Habtom Samuel continues to amaze. After losing a shoe halfway through the race at the NCAA country championships, Samuel powered through and ran the final five kilometers anyway. He ended the race with a bloody foot and a second-place finish. "My family taught me how to do everything mentally," said Samuel. "I felt something when my shoe came off, but I said, 'Let me do this. I'm going to fight until I reach the finish line.'" Samuel wasn't the only Lobo to make the podium as an individual. In the women's race, Pamela Kosgei also finished as runner-up.
