(WFRV) - A beloved K-9 who trained with the Wisconsin State Patrol unfortunately passed away at the age of nine on Monday, according to a Facebook post. "It is with great sadness that the Wisconsin State Patrol announces the passing of K-9 Capo," the post said. K-9 Capo joined the force in 2016 working in the Southwest Region - Tomah Post as part of Special Operations. K-9 Capo was trained in detecting explosives while playing a major role in public safety. ‘Watch for hunters’: Wisconsin Department of Transportation reminds motorists to be mindful as gun-deer season begins In his years with the State Patrol, K-9 Capo protected countless authority figures. K-9 Capo was assigned to protect presidents, vice presidents, cabinet members, state officials and countless other political figures along with helping to keep large events safe. K-9 Capo was due to retire with Trooper McCarthy next month. "We salute K-9 Capo for his dedicated service to the state of Wisconsin," the post said. "He will be deeply missed by his family and the communities he served."
