Juvenile dead after suspected DUI driver crashes into vehicle on South Union Avenue: BPD

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- One man was arrested on suspicion of DUI Friday night after a fatal collision in south Bakersfield, according to the Bakersfield Police Department.
At 7:24 p.m., officers were dispatched to the intersection of Hosking Avenue and South Union Avenue for reports of a traffic collision. Police say a Chevrolet SUV was traveling northbound on S. Union Avenue and struck a Honda sedan as it made an eastbound to northbound left turn from Hosking Avenue. A 12-year old passenger and 11-year-old passenger of the Honda sedan were transported to the hospital with major injuries.
The 12-year-old was later pronounced deceased at Kern Medical, police said.
The driver of the Chevrolet was believed to be under the influence of alcohol and was arrested under suspicion of reckless driving, gross vehicular manslaughter and DUI related charges.
Excess speed is also a possible factor in this crash.
