Texas defense shining again, Longhorns lead Kentucky 247 at halftime

AUSTIN (KXAN) — No. 3 Texas held Kentucky under 100 total yards of offense and Quinn Ewers threw two touchdowns to lift the Longhorns to a 24-7 halftime lead over Kentucky on Saturday at DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium.
Both Ewers' scoring passes went to tight end Gunnar Helm, the first on a 3-yard pass in the opening quarter and the latter a 17-yard strike in the second quarter. Jaydon Blue rushed for a score and Bert Auburn hit a 49-yard field goal with 0:10 left in the half.
With Kentucky ahead, competition for Texas Longhorns has been fierce in practice
Coming into the game, Texas had the best defense in the country by average yards allowed per game, and they continued to be a wall of burnt orange against the Wildcats. Texas allowed 98 yards of offense with 73 coming on the Wildcats' lone scoring drive.
Ewers finished the first half 17-for-26 and 177 yards. Matthew Golden hauled in six catches for 85 yards and Blue ran for 64 yards on 10 carries. Texas ran 46 plays to Kentucky's 23 and the Longhorns averaged 6.4 yards per play in the first half.
