LAPLACE, La. (WGNO) — A Ponchatoula man is dead and another person is critically injured following a crash that happened in the LaPlace area on Friday, Nov. 22. According to the Louisiana State Police, troops with Troop B started investigating the crash, which occurred on Airline Highway near Windsor Street, around 4 p.m. 51-year-old man killed in LaPlace shooting The initial investigation showed that 55-year-old Thomas Mixon was driving a 2003 Toyota Tundra in the right lane, northbound on Airline Highway, behind a 2022 Kia K5. Simultaneously, a 2005 Toyota Tundra was heading north in the left lane, next to Mixon. For reasons that are still being investigated, Mixon reportedly tried to change lanes and pass the Kia, and in doing so, hit the right front of the 2005 Toyota. Mixon's Toyota then proceeded to rotate and hit the right rear of the Kia before crossing the center of the roadway and hitting a 2023 Dodge Durango that was heading south. Troopers say Mixon wasn't wearing his seatbelt, and was ejected from the truck. He died on scene. Public shares concerns over quadruple shooting in French Quarter The driver of the Durango, who was properly restrained, was seriously injured and taken to a local hospital for treatment. The driver of the Kia and the driver of the 2005 Toyota were both restrained and uninjured. Toxicology samples were taken from all drivers for analysis as part of the ongoing investigation.
