Rochester, N.Y. (WROC) – Students had a deep discussion Friday on topics like racism and privilege at the Monroe 2 BOCES in Spencerport. Roc2change collaborates with schools to bring events like this morning’s, “Road2Change.” The sponsored student summit encourages dialogue through lectures and group activities. One student, Deeqa Osman from World of Inquiry School number 58, said they are on the road to change. “We’re here to change things, road to change. We’re the new generation. We’re here to change things. We’re driving the car that’s going down the road,” Osman said. Having a relaxed and open environment for connection is important to the student leaders of the summit. Student leader from Edison Career and Technology high school, DJ Jackson said that this event shows how many communities can come together. “We are just creating an environment where everybody can connect and network. And be able to experience something outside their own community, cause in the end of the day were all one community,” Jackson said. The event was led by students from Penfield high school, World of Inquiry school number 58, and Edison Career and Technology high school. They hope that those in attendance are inspired, made new friendships, and gained a better understanding of one another. For more information, visit this website.
