WESTERLY, R.I. (WPRI) — Westerly Animal Control came to the rescue of two water-logged raccoons who found themselves in quite the predicament Thursday afternoon. The Westerly Animal Shelter shared footage on social media of an officer pulling two raccoons from a catch basin, which was starting to fill with water as it rained. "The raccoons were swimming to stay alive — they fell in and couldn't get out," the Westerly Animal Shelter explained, noting that the pair was spotted by a Rhode Island Department of Transportation worker who was clearing those catch basins. The officer pulled the raccoons from the catch basin using a catching pole and plopped them gently in the nearby grass. Both of them then ran off into the woods. Close Thanks for signing up!
