INDIANAPOLIS — The Fraternal Order of Police and the City of Indianapolis have agreed to a tentative IMPD contract. Per a release from the Indy FOP, the new contract will begin in 2025 and run through 2028. On average, the new contract will give IMPD staff a 24% salary increase. The FOP has also reported that the new contract will allow IMPD to offer one of the highest starting salaries for new officers in the State of Indiana. Per Indy.gov, IMPD currently offers a starting salary of around $72,000. In a post on X, Indy FOP President Rick Snyder wrote that the contract emphasizes officer retention by raising the wages of mid-career officers. In a statement, Snyder also wrote that wage increases for mid-career officers will help IMPD compete with the salaries agencies like the Carmel Police Department and Indiana State Police offer their employees. “After many months of hard work and good faith negotiations by the FOP and the City of Indianapolis, we have set the stage for the IMPD to first retain the officers we have, compete with surrounding agencies for new officers, and provide better wages and benefits for our officers and their families," Snyder wrote in a statement. "Our FOP Executive Board unanimously recommends ratification of this contract, and we thank Mayor Joe Hogsett and his team for their work to invest in police.” Per Snyder, a vote on the contract is expected to be completed by IMPD officers by Dec. 5.
