MONROE COUNTY, Ind. -- Firefighters responded to two serious crashes that required crews to safely extricate that occurred overnight in Monroe County.
Crews with the Monroe Fire Protection District were called shortly after midnight to Interstate 69 near mile marker 129.5 in response to reports of a single-vehicle accident that occurred in the area.
MFPD said crews arrived and located a vehicle that had slid down an embankment with the driver still inside of it. Firefighters on the scene determined that the vehicle had sustained "heavy" damage after sliding down the rocky embankment before coming to rest in a thick brush.
The trapped driver was extricated and transported to an area hospital for medical treatment. Their condition was not provided.
Around three hours later, MFPD said crews were called to Victor Pike in response to another accident with possible entrapment.
Firefighters arrived on the scene and reportedly observed a pickup truck that was pinned against a tree while the driver remained trapped inside the vehicle.
Crews on the scene requested assistance from a helicopter to complete what was called an "extensive" extrication to remove the individual.
The patient was then transported via helicopter to an area hospital for additional medical treatment. As of this article's publication, their condition was not disclosed by MFPD.
