SHAWANO, Wis. (WFRV) — The Shawano County Sheriff's Office shared a heartwarming story of a ten-year-old who called 911, not for an emergency, but for help with a math problem.
The child began the call by saying, “Hey, it’s not really an emergency. I just need help on one math problem on my homework for eighth grade. I’m sorry to waste your time.”

911 operator Kim Krause, rather than becoming frustrated, offered to assist, saying, “I’m not very good with math, sweetie, but I can try!”

The problem involved understanding how dividing by ten relates to finding one-tenth of a number. Krause decided to send Deputy Mason to help. While Mason admitted he wasn’t “overly proficient in math,” he and the child worked together to solve the homework problem.

Before leaving, Deputy Mason gave the child his business card and explained the proper use of non-emergency lines for similar situations.
“This was a great teaching moment for all,” the Shawano County Sheriff’s Office shared on Facebook. “Thank you, Deputy Mason, for taking time out of your day to be a friend to this young man!”
