WILLIAMSBURG COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – A high school student in Williamsburg County was arrested Friday after a firearm was found inside the car while on school grounds.
A suspicious odor coming from the student prompted administrators at Kingstree High School to search their vehicle.
“Upon inspecting the vehicle based on reasonable suspicion, an administrator found a firearm inside. Additionally, what appeared to be marijuana was also discovered in the vehicle,” said the Williamsburg County School District.
The student was arrested by a school resource officer around 12:15 p.m., and the incident was confined to the school parking lot. The school did not undergo lockdown and continued its normal schedule.
“Schools are microcosms of society whatever is happening in our communities will find their way into our schools. Those that choose not to follow our rules will not be successful in Williamsburg County schools,” said Williamsburg County School District Superintendent Dr. Kelvin Wymbs.
A similar incident on Thursday led to another student’s arrest at the school. District officials said a suspicious odor led to a search where a gun, shell casing, vape pen, and some marijuana were found in the student’s vehicle.
