US Capitol Christmas Tree arrives in DC from Alaska

WASHINGTON (DC News Now) -- From Alaska to Washington, D.C., the Capitol Christmas Tree is finally here! Its arrival marks the 60th anniversary of the U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree lighting tradition.
The Sitka Spruce tree is 80 feet tall and 22 feet wide. It was harvested from Alaska's Tongass National Forest. This is the second Capitol Christmas Tree from Alaska.
The Capitol Christmas Tree which was named, "Spruce Wayne," traveled more than 4,000 miles over the past three weeks. The tree made stops in 11 communities across the country as part of the tradition of giving the tree a proper send-off to D.C.

John Schank and Fred Austin from Alaska are the drivers responsible for safely getting the tree from Alaska to the nation's capital.
Austin is from North Pole, Alaska, and this is Schank's second time transporting the Capitol Christmas Tree across the country.
The tree will come to life with thousands of lights on Dec. 3 on the West Front Lawn. The lighting ceremony will begin at 5 p.m.
It will stay lit from dusk until 11 p.m. each evening until Jan. 1, 2025.
