MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. (DC News Now) -- A grand jury found a woman from Gaithersburg guilty of stabbing her 20-year-old boyfriend to death in 2023. The Montgomery County State's Attorney's Office announced Friday that 22-year-old Jennifer Espinoza-Orellana, of Gaithersburg, was found guilty for the murder of Jose Manuel Zavala Marquez. Officials said jurors deliberated for 90 minutes before handing in the verdict. On Sept. 10, Espinoza-Orellana dropped Marquez's body off at the Adventist HealthCare Shady Grove Medical Center in Rockville. 2 dead, 2 injured after crash on Tall Cedars Parkway in Loudoun County During the investigation, police learned that the couple got into an argument at Espinoza-Orellana's home in the 8000 block of Shady Spring Drive. During the fight, she followed Marquez outside and stabbed him in the chest with a kitchen knife. The knife went through Marquez's sternum and pierced his heart. Espinoza-Orellana then drove his body to her family member's home, before meeting up with another individual. Investigators found that she waited at least four hours before taking Marquez to the hospital. The Attorney's Office said Espinoza-Orellana faces up to 40 years in prison. Her sentencing hearing is set for April 4, 2025.
