CLOVIS, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - Officials with the Clovis Unified District announced one of their schools is now "one of a kind" in Fresno County after being notified of the school's selection as a National Showcase School.
District officials say the Fancher Creek Elementary School was the first in Fresno County to receive this designation by the AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) Center. The school received the designation for its successful implementation of AVID strategies, resulting in a 4% increase in English and Language Arts and 4% in Math in a single year.
“It is a testament to our staff's cohesiveness, competitive spirit, and willingness to be cutting-edge that we have become the first National AVID Showcase school in our area," said Principal Carisa Cordova. "This means that educators from all over the country will come to learn from Fancher Creek how AVID can best be implemented at the elementary level."
The AVID Center is a national education center focused on creating instructional strategies and school climates that deliver high effective inquiry-based learning designed to close the opportunity gap in college graduation rates among diverse and underrepresented demographic groups.
