This year, the busiest days for air travel are expected to be the weekends before and after Thanksgiving. If you plan to fly, it's recommended you arrive at the airport at least 90 minutes before your departure time. The busiest times are from 4 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. and then again from 3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Bradley International Airport spokesperson Brian Spyros shared advice with travelers to help them get to their Thanksgiving destinations smoothly. "[Travelers] should be in the terminal, in line, with their airline at least 90 minutes before their flight," Spyros said. "They definitely want to give themselves time to get through security and get down to the gate."
Spyros also stressed the importance of familiarizing yourself with the TSA guidelines. Know what you can and can't bring in your carry-on. Doing so will help Make sure you pack appropriately and get through screening much faster. Also, download your airline's app so you can check in and get notifications in real time if your itinerary changes.
On Friday a traveler told 22News that if lines become frustrating, he tries to remember everyone is trying to get somewhere, and patience will go a long way. "We're all going through it together so there's no point in being rude to the other people around you or certainly the people that are working because they're working on the holidays," said David Cross of Wilbraham. "Let's all be a little nicer to each other."
